{"id":2054,"date":"2026-09-08T16:17:57","date_gmt":"2026-09-08T16:17:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/smileheisproject.org\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=2054"},"modified":"2026-09-09T21:13:52","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T21:13:52","slug":"smile-project-completes-first-wp2-practical-training-visit-at-middle-east-technical-university-in-ankara","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/smileheisproject.org\/so\/event\/smile-project-completes-first-wp2-practical-training-visit-at-middle-east-technical-university-in-ankara\/","title":{"rendered":"SMILE Project Completes First WP2 Practical Training Visit at Middle East Technical University in Ankara"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ankara,\u00a0T\u00fcrkiye\u00a0\u2013\u00a04\u00a0September\u00a02026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project SMILE \u2013 Supporting Mobility and Internationalisation for Learning and Engagement in Somali HEIs<br \/>\nhas successfully completed its first practical training visit under Work Package 2 (WP2): Capacity Building through Training and Infrastructure Development.<br \/>\nThe four-day training took place from 1 to 4 September 2026 at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, bringing together representatives from the Somali partner higher education institutions with experts from METU and the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The activity formed part of Task 2.3 \u2013 Practical Training Visits to European Partner Institutions, which aims to strengthen the internationalisation capacity of Somali higher education institutions through hands-on training, practical exchange, and exposure to international cooperation practices.<br \/>\nAcross\u00a0the\u00a0four\u00a0days,\u00a0participants\u00a0engaged\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0comprehensive\u00a0programme\u00a0covering<br \/>\nkey areas of higher education internationalisation. The sessions addressed international<br \/>\nacademic\u00a0partnerships,\u00a0research\u00a0collaboration\u00a0and\u00a0networking,\u00a0Erasmus+\u00a0cooperation<br \/>\nopportunities,\u00a0proposal\u00a0development\u00a0and\u00a0consortium\u00a0building,\u00a0virtual\u00a0mobility,\u00a0staff\u00a0mobility,<br \/>\nfinancial\u00a0and\u00a0administrative\u00a0aspects\u00a0of\u00a0mobility,\u00a0intercultural\u00a0communication,\u00a0and\u00a0global<br \/>\nnetworking\u00a0skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The training also explored emerging approaches to internationalisation, including the role of artificial intelligence, MOOCs, micro-credentials, and virtual internationalisation in expanding access to international learning and cooperation opportunities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A key objective of the training was to ensure that knowledge acquired during the week could be translated into concrete institutional actions. On the final day, representatives of the Somali HEIs presented their Institutional Action Plans and commitments for the development of academic collaboration, staff mobility, and virtual mobility within their institutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Ankara training represents an important step in the implementation of SMILE\u2019s wider objective to enhance the internationalisation of Somali higher education institutions. Through WP2, the project seeks to equip academic and administrative staff with the skills, knowledge, and practical tools required to engage more effectively in Erasmus+ mobility, international partnerships, virtual exchange, and other forms of academic cooperation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The\u00a0training\u00a0was\u00a0hosted\u00a0by\u00a0METU,\u00a0the\u00a0leader\u00a0of\u00a0WP2,\u00a0with\u00a0contributions\u00a0from\u00a0EAEC,\u00a0and<br \/>\nactive\u00a0participation\u00a0from\u00a0representatives\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0Somali\u00a0partner\u00a0institutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The SMILE consortium thanks all trainers, speakers, organisers, and participants for their contribution to four days of intensive learning, exchange of experience, networking, and joint planning.<br \/>\nThe project will continue its WP2 activities with further capacity-building and training actions aimed at supporting Somali HEIs in developing sustainable international cooperation and mobility structures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>About\u00a0SMILE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">SMILE\u2014Supporting Mobility and Internationalisation for Learning and Engagement in Somali HEIs\u2014is an Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project designed to strengthen the international dimension of Somali higher education institutions.
